President of VPM, Mdm Angelina Ho says the club was established in 2011 to promote the sport of volleyball. At the same time, to gather all ex-national and state players to help out in the growth of the sport.
Every year the tournament will be held in different states in order to promote interest in volleyball. This is to diversify the interest in volleyball at different places in different year. The previous three tournaments were held in Penang, Perak and Malacca. This year the 4th Ho Chee Meng Veteran Invitation Tournament will be held in Pahang.
Bentong was once the best team in Malaysia in the 70s and 80s. President Angelina Ho, also from Bentong states that, the peak stage of volleyball in Bentong was in the 70s and 80s for both the male and female teams. In the national team of Malaysia, there were 7 Bentong players out of the 12 players. Now many of them feel that they need to contribute back to the development of the sport, including providing skills and technique training.
There will be a total of 16 teams participating in this tournament including the teams from Singapore. To be eligible to play in the male category, participants should be 40 years old and above. As for the female participants, the minimum age required to join the tournament is 35 years old. We hope to attract the interest of the local people to spectate the tournament.
We will be glad to receive any sponsorship from any kind people or organisations. Please do not hesitate to contact Mdm Angelina Ho ( 016-4703733) or Mr Choong ( 012-4533044) for further information or inquiries.
